Alison Griffiths has spoken out against Government plans to cut winter fuel payments to pensioners.
Alison strongly believes that pensioners must be afforded dignity and respect in retirement. She is therefore deeply concerned about the adverse impact of this Government’s plans.
Speaking in the Daily Express, Alison said, "I urge the Government to reverse this political decision to punish pensioners whilst awarding inflation-busting pay rises to the trade unionists who fund Labour."
One of their first acts has been to scrap the Winter Fuel Payment for millions of pensioners. Unless they are in receipt of pension credit or other means-tested benefits, the Government has announced that millions will no longer receive their annual Winter Fuel Payments. This represents a loss in income of up to £300 for around 10 million pensioners.
These payments afforded pensioners security in retirement. It seems this Government does not see this as a priority. Alison made it clear during her election campaign that protecting our pensioners was one of her key priorities. Alison will continue to press the Government on this matter and to raise it in the media. She knows how much the Government’s decision will hurt so many constituents.
