As an active sea swimmer, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP, Alison Griffiths, knows first-hand the damage that sewage discharges are doing to our area. Alison is committed to holding all those responsible to account.
Since July, Alison has met representatives from Southern Water and the Environment Agency on multiple occasions. She has made her view clear: we must clean up our water. You can imagine her immense disappointment with the latest bathing water quality data. It cannot go on. Alison has reinforced her views, and yours, to Southern Water and the Environment Agency.
Alison recently met with Southern Water at the Wastewater Treatment Works in Ford. It was an eye-opening visit where she went behind the scenes and saw first-hand the process to clean up sewage. Whilst there, they had a frank discussion about how we can resolve flooding and sewage discharges. Alison will continue to hold them to account.
Investment is required and with the regulator, Ofwat, announcing an increase to water bills, Alison has requested a clear and detailed roadmap which outlines how funding generated will directly benefit our area.
Southern Water is just one piece of the puzzle. Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council, the Environment Agency, the Government and a number of other organisations have a role to play. Alison will be doing all she can to bring everyone together to resolve this.
